Gloomy equinox
Does so little to banish
Winter’s cold hard knocks.

I’ve been very quiet recently, but as it is World Poetry Day, I thought it appropriate to post a little haiku written last year. Enjoy! 🙂

Sharp icicle teeth
Bite and tear at fragile blooms,
Death stalks the garden.
Plants succumb to icy barbs
As frozen petals harden.
Glist’ning ‘neath the frost,
Dressed in glittered finery,
Flowers splendid still;
For all the death Winter brings,
Beauty reigns despite the chill.

Enchantress Autumn
Sweeps aside Sorceress Summer
Casts her seasonal spell
Bedazzles with costume change trickery
Sheds emerald finery
For fiery reds and russets
Flaming orange and brilliant bronze
Costume jewellery spider webs,
Strung with dewy diamond beads,
Grassy fields sequin-scattered,
Festooning even lowly weeds.
Kamikaze helicopters,
Sycamore skydivers,
Twist and twirl and flit and swirl:
First fallen survivors.
Clustered snowdrops,
Daintily dressed in their spotless skirts,
Huddle together
Against February’s final fierce frost.
