A heart that’s playful,
Body lustful, afire love,
Young passion blooming;
Excitement of something new
Courses hot through burning veins.
A heart that’s lifeless,
Body untouched, veins run cold,
Young love extinguished;
The new-felt pain of heartache
Like frostbite stinging the soul.

In the garish station light,
We gripped hands,
Or linked arms,
And my heart fluttered fearfully
At a farewell
That could be final.
There is a point of entry, punctured by words like knives,
And in comes the coldness, icy tendrils round the heart,
It spreads as your blood freezes; each limb becoming numb,
And all because you simply said “It’s best if we’re apart”.
What am I to you now?
Just a blip in your spotless record?
A haphazard mistake, scribbled out?
A first draft screwed (up), and trashed?
A dull detour from your crazy-paved path?
After the goodbye
You were unfaltering in your silence,
Whilst I clawed at my heart
In frantic desperation,
