Hi, I’m Emma. Welcome to my world.
When I was a child, my imagination knew no bounds. Fuelled by my insatiable hunger for reading fiction, I would conjure lands, characters and tales of my own creation. So often would I find myself daydreaming, ignoring the conversations and questions of those around me, that my parents would affectionately declare that I was “in Emma world” – a phrase still used amongst my family to this day.
Little me would write and write to my heart’s content, pouring the contents of my imagination out through pen and paper, and later, computer keyboard. I aspired to be an author, who would invent a story so engaging, immersive and entertaining that it would delight children and adults alike. I wanted to be the next J.K. Rowling, to create the next Harry Potter. It was a dream I never thought I’d lose.
As I grew up, experienced university and tried my hand at ‘adulting’, Emma World became a quiet, uneventful and near-deserted place. I stopped reading. The dream faded, replaced by stressful studies, a social life and real-life responsibilities. The well of my imagination started to dry up. It was only when a university friend and budding writer showed me his blog, and I began to explore WordPress, that I re-ignited my interest in creative writing, a spark I have kindled into penning new poetry and some short stories. These I now share with you all here, on my blog, suitably titled (of course!) “In Emma World”. Many pieces are influenced by personal experiences, others by the world around us, and some are born straight out of my imagination. I very much hope you enjoy, and any feedback is much appreciated!
So what else is there to tell?
I’m in my mid-twenties, British and living in the UK, with two sisters, and I studied French and Spanish at university (four years on the latter is struggling!). I would describe myself as an ambivert (somewhere between intro and extro), but definitely a pessimist. I love music – including singing – and my favourite artist is British pop-rock group McFly; I have been a fan since the age of 13, so if there’s one thing you need to know about me, this is it! My Hogwarts house is Ravenclaw, I’m arachnophobic and I love doughnuts, musicals, cocktails, rollercoasters and dogs.
That’s me in a nutshell, the bare basics. If you want to get to know me further, I suggest you read my poems! Or feel free to ask me any specific questions in the comments section 🙂
Welcome to Emma World, I hope you enjoy your stay.
