My heart petrified,

Though not carved from stone,

It beats terrified,

Scared to be alone.

With no chainmail mesh,

Your words knives to me

Cut through the soft flesh

To inflict agony.

My heart is not shielded,

So now as you speak,

Your weapons are wielded

And cause me to shriek.

Confessions aflame

Burn me to the core,

Accusations maim,

As though we’re at war.

I’m unprotected,

Vulnerable, in pain,

Attacks unexpected,

Now my heart is slain.
