The Pursuit of Happiness

Success and happiness are an illusion:

An unattainable nirvana just beyond the horizon

That we hunt like ravenous wolves,

Stampeding forwards,

Carelessly trampling on others,

And yet harming ourselves,

As we jostle for position in the pack.

And at the end of it all,

Battered, bruised and exhausted,

Too late, we realise

That it was naught but a mirage,

And that the happiness we sought

Was at our feet all along.
