Appetite

appetite

My hungry heart

Feasted on sweet thoughts of you,

Infatuated, insatiable appetite,

My one source of sustenance

In unfamiliar territory.

Lapping up your words

And devouring

Indistinct images of your face:

Watchful, protective,

Distant, screen-framed.

Constantly craving,

Obsessed, addicted

To your sugar-coated self,

Concealing a sour centre.

It only occurred to me at the end of writing this poem that I could link it perfectly to yesterday’s Daily Prompt (albeit with the English spelling, of course!).

The cake photograph is yet another from the Lake District, a café in Pooley Bridge. It was as delicious as it looks!
